Coca-Cola 600:

Daniel Suarez captured his first win of the 2026 campaign on Sunday evening in the rain-shortened Coca-Cola 600! It was his first in at Charlotte, his first NASCAR Crown Jewel win, his first with Spire, and his third career victory, all three coming at different tracks. Suarez and crew chief Ryan Sparks executed to perfection late with a little pit strategy and two excellent restarts to hold off hard chargers from Denny Hamlin (the best car of the day) and Christopher Bell (one of the fastest cars of the day) to earn the victory when the race was called due to rain with 27 laps left.

The race was another phenomenal on-track product at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Whatever combination allows this generation of Cup cars to thrive at NASCAR's home track must not be touched there and replicated at other 1.5-mile tracks. This type of racing is perfect for NASCAR and brings excitement and anticipation to the racetrack every time the green flag falls. Even though the Toyotas dominated the front few spots all night, drivers were able to move around the track and find speed in every groove. Moreover, there were comers and goers throughout the night as drivers had to expertly manage their drive to keep tire wear to a minimum, and if they pushed too hard, tires started to fall off dramatically and cord. Drivers were also on edge throughout the night, which was seen in several drivers going over the limit and spinning out. Extra cautions, restarts, and attrition throughout the race also added to the evening's excitement. As the race pushed on into the night, it was evident that the weather could disrupt or end it early. This also added to the evening's intensity, as when the weather got closer, drivers turned up the wick and drove even harder to better position themselves to either win or just improve their finishing position. Over nearly two dozen laps, Daniel Suarez and the 7 team made the perfect strategy call, putting them out front. Once they had the lead, Daniel executed two flawless restarts and drove immaculately to fend off two of the (and maybe the) best cars of the night. How he did it so perfectly still eludes me, but Daniel was out front when the rains fell. Ultimately, the rain took over the track, and NASCAR called the race early, with Suarez earning the victory in one of NASCAR's Crown Jewel events.

I'd be remiss if I didn't say some final words about the passing of Kyle Busch. As I wrote last week, it is heartbreaking, saddening, and shocking. I'm not sure those feelings will ever elude us. Aside from a busier-than-anticipated week, still grieving over the loss of Kyle is one reason I have delayed writing. It's still hard to reckon with that one of the greatest drivers in NASCAR history was so tragically lost way too soon. The strength the entire Busch family demonstrated Sunday by attending the pre-race ceremonies is a strength I only ever hope to possess one day. My continued thoughts and prayers are extended to the Busch family as they continue to process and grieve the loss of Kyle.

Next up, NASCAR heads to Nashville Superspeedway with all three national touring series back in action starting tonight. The Craftsman Truck Series takes the green flag Friday night at 8 p.m. on FS1 in the Allegiance 200. The O'Reilly Auto Parts Series takes to the track tomorrow night on The CW at 7:30 p.m. in the Sports Illustrated Resorts 250. The Cup Series headlines a weekend in Music City on Sunday evening on Amazon Prime at 7 p.m. in the Cracker Barrel 400.

Nashville Picks:

Trucks = Kaden Honeycutt

NOAPS = Kyle Larson
